LIVE on Jan. 6 at 8:30 a.m. | Biden speaks on one-year anniversary of Capitol insurrection

President Biden delivers remarks on the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The day of remembrance also includes speeches from lawmakers who were present when a mob of Donald Trump supporters stormed the building in an attempt to stop the certification of Biden’s victory.

Five people died either during or shortly after the riot, including Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick. A week later, the House of Representatives impeached then-President Trump for incitement of insurrection. The Senate acquitted him. The House eventually formed a select committee to investigate what led to the attack, how the Capitol was breached so easily and how a similar event could be prevented in the future. Seven Democrats and two Republicans serve on the committee.
